Point de vue - La Pierre Folle

As a granite region, the Châtaigneraie abounds in stones of all kinds and curious shapes. Here, in Bussière-Galant, at a place called "Pierre-Pointue" or "Pierre-Folle", a stone nicknamed "the cradle of the wolf" stands atop a hill. The footprint is said to have been left by a Gallic, hence the name "Pied de Gaulois". It is said that every year, it turns on itself, which also earns it the name "Pierre-Folle".

Another legend tells of a girl-mother who was rejected by her family. She found refuge with her child in the hollow of this stone, but cold and hunger took the child away. The mother went mad, hence the name "Pierre de la Folle". It is said that sometimes, in the winter wind, you can still hear her moans.

The site is accessible via the "Sentier des sources de la Dronne" (Dronne springs trail) or by parking at the "Grange".
