A Persian miniature: Shapur shows the portrait of Khosrow to Shirin attributed to Mirza Ali. Figurative art in the land of Islam. Often appreciated for its shimmering appearance and exotic character, Persian miniatures have long been judged according to the criteria of Western art and considered immature. It has also been portrayed as an art form

on the defensive against the prohibitions of Islam. In reality, it reflects a highly refined culture developed through contact with multiple sources, both Eastern and Western, and constitutes an accomplished art form that goes hand in hand with poetry and music. This culture continues to permeate the collective memory of Iranians who, despite the vicissitudes of the times, keep certain aspects of it alive, particularly in terms of music.
