Edgar - Opéra de Limoges

Opera in concert version—music by Giacomo Puccini—in three acts.

Libretto by Ferdinando Fontana.

Prelude at 2:15 p.m.—Program introduction by Alain Voirpy, musicologist.

The extremely rare *Edgar*, Puccini’s second opera, tells the story of a man torn between two women: the tender Fidelia and the passionate Tigrana. After leading a life of debauchery with the latter, Edgar decides to enlist in the army. While he is believed to have fallen in battle, the two women are torn apart... But are we really sure that Edgar is dead?

It is not so much the libretto that stands out, but the expressive power of the music, the rich orchestration, and the grandiose choruses. The chorus is exceptional, featuring 50 singers and a children’s choir. In the title role, we are joined by the impressive tenor Alejandro Roy, who played Pagliacci in May 2024 at the Limoges Opera.

Running time: 1 hour 30 minutes.
