Fontaine Saint-Antoine

Originating in the early Middle Ages, around 650 the provost of the Ambazac monastery tapped water from the Breuil mountain to supply the abbey's workers and monks. The village grew in importance in 1125, when Grandmont Abbey was founded following the arrival of monks expelled from Muret. Its present location was at the junction of 2 roads, one of which led to Grandmont. It was used by pilgrims, monks, horsemen, the Plantagenets and their comrades-in-arms, and even important church dignitaries such as Popes Innocent II and Clement V.
