Menhir de la Croix Parot

Specialists prefer the name pierre levée to menhir. Fine granite monolith, 3.26 m high. In the past, it was topped by a granite disk cut with 2 oblique holes appearing to represent eyes, giving it an evil appearance - probably a pagan idol. It was sanctified and Christianized in the 11th or 12th century, probably when the old church was built. A cross has been carved on the disc, and on the column is a chalice that can be likened to the Holy Grail, the crystal cup that contained the blood of Christ. In 1905, with the separation of Church and State, this disc with the cross emblem was thrown to the ground. Nearby is a granite cube that once served as a step or altar. In the past, young girls would place pine needles in the cupula at the top of the monolith in the hope of finding a husband.
