After performing one of her own compositions, Béatrice Berrut will perform a passage she transcribed herself from Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 6, which some interpret as a declaration of love from Gustav to his wife Alma. A magnificent premiere of Arnold Schoenberg’s *Verklärte Nacht*, followed by a discussion and a nocturnal declaration of love. Béatrice calls her transcription a “paraphrase” because it is not so much a matter of rewriting all the notes from the six strings for her ten fingers, but rather of finding a way to make this music resonate across the piano’s 88 keys.
