Cléo de 5 à 7 - Cinéma le Lido
The history of cinema has long overlooked female pioneers—whether actresses or directors—who were confined to sexist stereotypes that reflected the societies of the past. Often reduced to their physical appearances and to supporting roles on screen, women have gradually gained access to new cinematic representations as feminism has advanced.
*Cléo from 5 to 7* is a film by Agnès Varda. It chronicles the life of Cléo, a young and beautiful, somewhat frivolous singer who fears she has cancer. To distract herself from her fear, she seeks support from those around her. She encounters disbelief, even indifference, and comes to realize the emptiness of her existence. She will finally find comfort with a stranger at the end of her anguished wanderings
through Paris.
The film will be screened and discussed during the session. Running time: 1 hour 30 minutes.
