New York, 1920. After falling from a horse and reading the banned play *The King in Yellow*, Hildred Castaigne is afflicted with a mental illness. He aspires to become the heir to the last king of the Imperial Dynasty of America with the help of Mr. Wilde, a strange character who calls himself a “reputation restorer.”
