Journées du Patrimoine - Château de Montauran

Visit exteriors only! Visit the historic agricultural estate of Montauran, which extends over 65 hectares and has always been dedicated to agriculture and forestry. Built in the 15th century, the château was not originally intended for defensive purposes, but retains two fortified towers with arches, cannonieres and harquebusieres (partially levelled and deprived of their conical roofs). At the rear, a dovecote dominates the facade. The remains of an oratory are currently being restored. A medieval icehouse, a 17-metre-deep well and a traditional bread oven surround the château. The building was extended in the 17th and 18th centuries, mainly for agricultural purposes. Guided tour by owner Joël Renaudie.
