La claque - Espace Georges Brassens - Feytiat
Funny, musical, and interactive—the incredible story of a conductor of applause.
1895 in a Parisian theater. Auguste Levasseur, a hired clapper, leads a troupe of accomplices who, mingled with the audience, are tasked with clapping at the right moments. A play that gets applause is a hit, but two hours before a major premiere, Auguste is abandoned by his claque. He then tasks Fauvette, a musician in the orchestra, and Dugommier, the theater’s stage manager, with finding replacements to save that evening’s performance. There’s only an hour and a half left before the start of the premiereto rehearse the novice clappers by acting out excerpts from the show—which features no fewer than five acts, forty musicians, and thirty set changes! It’s a daunting task—there are only three of them—and tonight, their careers hang by a single clap!
