La Clémence de Titus - Opéra de Limoges
An opera by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
In two acts, with an Italian libretto by Caterino Mazzolè.
Prelude on Sun., May 2, at 2:15 p.m., and prelude on Tue. at 7:15 p.m.
*La Clemenza di Tito*, Mozart’s masterpiece, is a work as brilliant as it is deeply human. To bring it to the stage, Jean-Philippe Clarac and Olivier Deloeuil reinvent Vitellia as a First Lady of modern times, all conventional smiles and formal elegance. Behind the official facade lies an ambitious and manipulative fighter, but also a wounded lover who is terribly endearing.
Romantic entanglements and political negotiations intertwine in a series of flashbacks. It serves as a reminder, with the power of Mozart’s music, that behind every man of power stands a woman.
Running time: 2 hours 20 minutes (including intermission)
