Le procès de Jeanne - Opéra de Limoges
A play for 1 actress and 6 musicians, based on the minutes of the trial that led to Joan of Arc’s conviction (1431)
Joan stands alone before those who will sentence her to death, with strength and defiance, in a tone that gives voice to all women who have been humiliated and violated. Based on a libretto drawn from the transcript of the trial proceedings, which recreates the language and style of the era, the production presents an oratorio blending speech, music, and song, in unison with the heroine, who is driven by her faith. A video installation gives voice to the men of the Inquisition.
With deeply moving intensity, *The Trial of Joan* touches on the universal nature of a character touched by grace. Judith Chemla, stunning in this monologue, is praised throughout the press for her conviction, her accuracy, and her masterful performance. Unforgettable.
Running time: 1 hour 15 minutes.
