Orsolina : Brahms — Schumann - Opéra de Limoges
Symphony concert by the Limoges Opera Orchestra.
Maria Badstue, conductor.
Prelude at 7:15 p.m. — program introduction by Alain Voirpy, musicologist.
The relationships between Johannes Brahms, Robert Schumann, and Clara Schumann, Robert’s wife, are among the most complex and significant in the history of Romantic music.
While Robert Schumann was a true mentor to Brahms, his relationship with Clara was even deeper. Brahms admired her, and Clara became one of the foremost interpreters of his music.
Brahms’s first major orchestral work, *Variations on a Theme by Haydn*, follows in the classical tradition.
Ten years later, the triumphant reception of his Symphony No. 3 only served to cement his reputation.
When she composed her Concerto for Piano and Orchestra, Clara Schumann demonstrated her talents as a pianist.
Duration: 1 hour 50 minutes (including intermission)
