Kodály immerses us in the Hungarian musical tradition with his Galanta Dances, composed as a tribute to a legendary brass band of Gypsy musicians from the town of Galanta.

Bartok’s Piano Concerto No. 3, his final work, is more than just a concerto written for the piano; it is a piece composed for a specific pianist—his wife, Ditta Pasztory. In it, he evokes what is most dear to him: nature and Hungarian folk music—a magnificent work, like a hymn to spring in which birdsong resounds.

The Czech composer Bohuslav Martinů is associated with Paris. It was there that he developed his highly distinctive musical language, into which he incorporated elements of jazz, as in the incidental music for the ballet *Checkmate to the King*.
