Une Cerisaie - Théâtre de l’Union
Running time: 2 hours 40 minutes
BY ANTON CHEKHOV, DIRECTED BY AURÉLIE VAN DEN DAELE
The Cherry Orchard, a celebration and a fable about our family legacies and the memory of places. First times are never insignificant. This one certainly isn’t. After *Angels in America* and *1200 Tours*, the theater’s artistic director turns her attention to this ensemble piece, whose title evokes the name of an estate on the verge of being sold due to insurmountable family debts. A dilapidated yet majestic old mansion, surrounded by thousand-year-old trees, that crystallizes the tensions of a fading era. Between nostalgia and renewal, abandonment and the future, disillusioned utopia and the law of the market, the play resonates surprisingly with the vertigo of our present.
